ICEI-Business Confidence Index
As a leading indicator of industrial performance, the ICEI detects shifts in industrial production trends. The data required for building the ICEI index are collected in tandem with the Industrial Survey and the Construction Survey. Confidence indices are made available for three company sizes (small, medium and large), for the five Brazilian geographic regions, and for the different sectors of the mining and quarrying, manufacturing, and construction industries.
Industry starts 2026 with pessimism
In January 2026, the Industrial Business Confidence Index (ICEI) recorded a 0.5 point increase, moving from 48.0 points to 48.5 points. Despite this advancement, the ICEI remains below the 50-point mark, indicating that the low-confidence scenario observed throughout 2025 among industrial business owners continues. Notably, this is the worst result for January since 2016, when the indicator registered 36.6 points.
