Fear Of Unemployment And Life Satisfaction

This publication presents the Fear of Unemployment Index (IMD) and the Life Satisfaction Index (ISV). These indicators have a national coverage and are calculated since 1999. The indicators are designed to capture the state of mind of the population at large to support forecasts of the evolution of household consumption. The data required to build the indicators are collected through a quarterly public opinion survey carried out by IBOPE Inteligência Institute.

Fear of unemployment is lower than at the end of 2019

Fear of unemployment is lower in September 2020 than in the entire year of 2019, despite the economic crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. The Life Satisfaction Index also does not show a worsening in September 2020 despite the crisis. The result probably reflects employment protection measures implemented by the government, besides the economic recovery.
