Consumer Confidence Index

The INEC Consumer Confidence Index is designed to capture trends in household consumption. The INEC was created by CNI in 1998 and is currently developed in partnership with Ibope Inteligência institute. The data required to build the indicator are collected through a monthly public opinion survey.

Consumer shows lack of confidence

In September, consumers showed lack of confidence, reflecting the effects of the pandemic on the economy, particularly on employment and income. The Consumer Confidence Index (INEC) stood at 42.8 points in September 2020, down by 3.3 points from its historical average of 46.1 points and by 4.5 points from December 2019, when the last reading was recorded.
