How the Centers work
Distributed in eight states of Brazil, each of the SESI Innovation Centers work on an area of interest of the industry.
They operate in a network and are able to help companies all over the country through one of the SESI units.
The action could be segmented depending on the size of the company or applied on a sector of the company, always focusing on increasing the productivity and competitiveness of the national industry.

Health and Safety Economics (Ceará)
Solutions
Consultancy to reduce health and safety costs
To help companies assess the return on health and safety investment as well as the analysis of aggregate values, advising actions and development of indicators for diagnosis and the use of a cost management calculator.
Workshop on health and safety cost management
- Workshop in company – customized courses of 72 hours’ duration for executives and leaders of companies on topics related to health costs and the development of an action plan
- Open Workshop – a course of 4 hours’ duration takes place at SESI, with contents divided by relevance for the industry sectorial groups
International partners
Johns Hopkins University - USA
This partnership aims at developing a calculator model for health and safety cost management which suits the Brazilian reality. This tool calculates the return on investment in health actions and can assist in decision making about which measurements should be taken by companies. The methodology is already validated in the United States and its adequacy to the Brazilian context undergoes a research on samples, national epidemiological data and cross-data of the Brazilian industry.
National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) - USA
This partnership aims at applying the economics methodology on health, being used as the content for workshops on cost management. This approach includes topics as introduction to economics in health care, notions of business cases, probability of case occurrence and policy-based statistics.
Finnish Institute of Occupational Health (FIOH) - Finland
FIOH assists in the development of contents for workshops as well as in the methodology and action plan for executive training.

Ergonomic Evaluation of Productive Processes
Analysis of the influence of technical and human aspects to better apply concepts of correction ergonomics which indicates the partial modification of the work area elements as size, light, noise and temperature.
Conception Ergonomics Methodology
Consultancy for the prevention of ergonomic risks in industries with the participation of workers and a simulation software, focused on conception ergonomics which indicates a wider interference in the productive processes, and not only in points where there is the need for correction.

Dutch organization for Applied Scientific Research (TNO) - The Netherlands
TNO helps develop tools for the definition of physical work load parameters which do not cause musculoskelal disorders and sick leave. It exchanges knowledge and tools to assess the physical work load in an standardized form and give support for the development of preventive services, helping reduce lesions.
The organization also offers support to adequate the tools to the legal and cultural context of Brazil, besides trainings on the execution of pilot projects for SESI professionals. TNO will also help with the development of a plan for the presentation and implementation of a new service package according to the first results.

Portfolio of innovative services and products for psychosocial factors management

Integration program of psychosocial factors management and health care promotion in work health and safety policies
Methodologies for work ergonomic analyses with integrated perspective on psychosocial factors; sleep improvement quality; presenteeism management; assistance for mental health promotion at slaughterhouses; impact measurement of work health and safety programs and psychosocial factors; adaptation of international models for Brazilian industrial reality - the SOLVE model, developed by the International Labour Organization (ILO), and the Total Worker Health model, promoted by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and developed by Harvard University.

This partnership aims at developing a model of a diagnosis methodology and psychosocial factors management, aligned with the present and future needs of the Brazilian industry and its workers. This model does not restrict its focus to the individual, but it also approaches the organizational environment based on social factors and psychological variables which contribute to the workers’ health and well-being.
Harvard University - USA
Harvard helps in training SESI and national industry workers through the Total Worker Health model, which purpose is to assess the workers’ health and safety conditions integrated to the psychosocial factors management. The university also assists in the development of a pilot project of this methodology at a Brazilian enterprise.

Solution
Biomarkers
Development of biomarkers, measurable indicators for monitoring volatile organic compounds (VOCs), through multiplex assays of mercapturic acids and miRNA for genes responsive to exposure.
Devices
Development of devices coupled to personal protective equipment (PPE) to reduce the exposure to volatile organic compounds (VOCs), through new nanostructure materials with high capacity of particle retention.
Phytoremediation
A process which uses plants to purify contaminated or polluted areas and reduce the formaldehyde in an industrial environment through a combination of Bacillus Cereus spread on the stem of the Zamioculcas Zamiofolia, which is resistant and well adapted to indoor areas and little light.
Nanomaterials
Development of nanomaterials to be applied on personal protective equipment (PPE) for the adsorption of metallic fumes from welding activities.

Longevity and Productivity (Paraná)
Solution
Productive Longevity Consultancy
The consultancy for the development of the workers’ personal and professional competence which allows a productive longevity and better results for the organization. The program consists of nine mediations of 2 hours and could be carried out weekly or every fifteen days.
Generations and Work
A consultancy for the retention and appreciation generated by the exchange of experience among workers of different generations. Based on an analysis of the demographic profile of the company, actions for the development of an innovative work environment which strengthens the relationship among people of different generations are defined.
Work in Balance
To diagnose the psychosocial factors connected with aging and develop an action plan to prevent risks, aiming to improve the management and maintain the worker’s professional capacity.
Productive Longevity Management
Consultancy on work environment longevity for leaders and professionals in the people management area, aiming to prepare them to apply this topic on their workers.

FIOH helps apply the Empowerment for Productive Longevity methodology, used in consultancies. As a world reference in this area, this institute also assists with the validation of new technologies and methodologies developed by the Innovation Center.

Prevention of Disability (Bahia)
Solutions
Solutions to the prevention and management of disability and return to work
To apply solutions for companies to earlier intervene in situations as disability and return to work by training teams which work on health and safety at work, as medical and human resource areas. It aims at contributing to the increase of productivity and the decrease of costs by reducing the number of cases, seek leave period and illness recurrence.
The training is carried out as courses in which professionals of the company learn to apply management tools. The methodology is based on a new international paradigm of prevention and management of Work Disability Prevention (WDP) and Return to Work (RTW).
Consultancy on the prevention and management of absenteeism and return to work
Consultancy carried out by SESI professionals to earlier intervene in workers’ disability and return to work. This service is based on successful international experiences of Stay at Work (SAW) and Return to Work (RTW) methods, combined with professional rehabilitation programs already carried out by SESI.
The consultancy aims not only at earlier acting to reduce the number of cases and sick leave time but also receiving workers who were absent from work. After concluding the service, SESI keeps direct contact with the company in case there is any need for other interventions.

FIOH develops new paradigms, solutions, tools and consultancy on Prevention of Disability. This institute also offers support to adjust the solutions and tools to the legal and cultural context of Brazil, besides trainings for professionals of the Center to apply pilot projects.

Guidoo
Application for mobile devices to promote health and well being with individual or corporate application. The solution has several functionalities to engage people, from recreational activities and health professional access to the control of goals and gamified work schedule, which means, motivational technics using games.
Through activities, challenges and information, Guidoo works as a personal guide to choose the best way to reach well-being, reducing the company's sedentary behavior and costs with workers’ health and safety.
Seif
A monitoring and safety management platform which allows safety managers and teams keep track of safety status of the company’s operations in real time, avoiding accidents, non-compliance fines and labor lawsuits.
Seif counts on devices for monitoring workers and risky areas as well as software and application for mobile devices to verify conformity, personal protective equipment (PPE), risk alerts as well as data integration and treatment.
In order to promote a safe behavior, the service also includes the installation of an interactive totem in the company in which the workers have access to safety information and mini-trainings related to the work which must be performed.

Stanford University, through one of its main laboratories - called mediaX, gives support for the SESI Innovation Center for Health Care Technologies by exchanging knowledge for the development of researches and solutions developed in Brazil.
MediaX is a catalyst of ideas and partnerships, whose main goal is to promote multidisciplinar research initiatives. Its mission is to provide new knowledge of how technology affects people’s lives, how to develop products and services and how the relationship between people and technology can be improved.
