The linear economic model based on raw material extraction, processing, use and waste disposal is reaching its limit. Circular Economy emerges as an alternative. However, what is circular economy? Lavoisier would say that in nature, nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed. This is the logic that a Circular Economy thinks the production and consumption process. Waste is input for the production of new products. The Circular Economy model extends product life cycle, invests in new forms of consumption and expands material recycling. With the principles of Circular Economy, society should diminishes the social and environmental impacts of consumerism. The transition from linear to circular economy generates more innovation in companies and expands new business opportunities. This transition requires coordination between actions from public and private sectors. On one hand, public initiatives include regulatory, fiscal, financial and innovation incentives, as well as educational campaigns. On the other hand, companies and private entities must implement innovative business models that accelerate this transition. CNI is committed to moving towards the Circular Economy, generating new opportunities and competitiveness for the Brazilian industry.
