Goiás

Goias is considered the heart of Brazil, for hosting in their territory the Federal District, capital of the country, and because it is located in a central area, leads the industrial development process in the Central-West.

With territory of 341.112 km², roughly the size of Germany's area, Goiás has the ninth largest economy in Brazil, with a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of R$ 111.2 billion.

Its capital, Goiânia, is a young, modern and dynamic city, where approximately 1.3 million people live and is just 170 km from Brasilia, the federal capital.

There are several reasons to invest in the state of Goiás. Amongst them are:

  • The Goiás soil is flat, fertile, suitable for food production, and also rich in savannah vegetation and abundant & clean water.

  • It has the third largest mineral province of Brazil - Except for oil. The grounds of Goiás is already producing  gold, copper sulphide, nickel, niobium, titanium, asbestos, limestone, phosphate, emeralds, ornamental stones, among other products.

  • Major producer of raw materials, the state has a special vocation to further develop the food industry and processing of minerals.

  • Annually it produces over 18 million tons of grains (soy, corn and sorghum), 1.5 million tons of tomatoes, large quantities of potatoes, onions, vegetables, cotton, and other varieties of fruits, vegetables and tubers.

  • The cattle herd is estimated at 22 million heads which, together with the production of poultry and pork, transform the state into a major producer and meat exporters and the third largest milk producer, with a volume exceeding 3.5 billion litres annually.

  • With the recent doubling of the BR-153 and BR-060 highways, together with the complete restoration of state roads and the recent completion of the North-South Railway - the stretch between the cities of Anapolis in Goias and Açailândia in Maranhão - the state can drain their products by rail to both the southern/south-eastern ports, like the port of Itaqui in São Luiz do Maranhão. In addition to the North-South Railway, the state is also served by the Centro-Atlantica Railway, which connects Annapolis to the Tubarão, Santos and Paranagua ports.

  • To accelerate the realization of his true vocation logistics, turning the state into a kind of clover of Brazil, with the attraction of large distribution centres and logistics operators, the state government is implementing a multimodal logistics platform, building a cargo airport with capacity to receive large aircraft, which will allow the flow of Goiás' production to all the regions of the country and abroad, combining and integrating the road, rail and air transportation modes. The logistics platform is located next to a customs agency to the interior (Dry Port), facilitating the import and export operations.

There are more than 3000 companies that produce food derived from beef, pork and poultry; soy products and corn; pasta and biscuits; canned vegetables; sugar; dairy products; spices; tomato products, among others.

Along with the production of sugar, in which the state is the fifth largest Brazilian producer, Goiás' manufacturing plant also produces ethanol at 36 plants located in the state, making Goiás the second largest ethanol producer in Brazil.

Construction industry

Disputing the lead with the production of food and beverages, the construction industry also absorbs about 30% of the jobs and acts from heavy construction to the works of sophisticated workmanship, destined to residential or commercial premises. The construction industry draws an important group of other sectors, suppliers of raw materials and services such as ceramics, gravel, sand, metal frames, cement products, paints, plastics, ornamental stones, wood and others.

Chemical and pharmaceutical industry

Concentrated on the axis of Annapolis-Goiânia-Aparecida de Goiania, this sector is experiencing strong growth for over ten years, supported by the pharmaceutical pole, which is already the second of the country, and the pole of cosmetics, cleaning products and personal hygiene. Over 45.000 formal jobs are generated by this important segment.

Metal, mechanical and electrical material products

It is one of the sectors with the greatest growth potential in the state, due to the large demand from the construction and processing of metallurgy products (nickel, gold, iron niobium and others). The segment presents the highest growth trend, however, the highest is the automobile industry because of the recent deployment of factories of the brands Mitsubishi, Hyundai, Suzuki and John Deere.
