Four segments are representatives for the industry of Ceará: mining, manufacturing, construction and production and distribution of electricity and gas, water, sewage and urban sanitation.
The strong processing industry makes the state an important industrial centre on the segments of footwear and textile.
However, other sectors are also significant in Ceará's economy:
Renewable energy
With one of the largest potential for wind power generation, the state now has 32 parks in operation; it is the largest producer of this energy in the country and is a pioneer in the production of tidal power. Actions were adopted for the state to be self-sufficient in energy in the coming years, among them is the consolidation of the generation of renewable energy parks (small hydro, wind, solar, biomass and tidal centrals).
The chemical sector includes pharmaceuticals, toiletries, cosmetics, petroleum based products and pesticides, paint, gas, veterinary among others. The Ceará production of cosmetics remains occupying a wide space in the Northeast and North of Brazil, which in area outweighs the Southeast, the South and the Central-West. The sector also has the impulse throughout its production chain with the arrival of the Premium II Refinery, bringing cost reduction and a significant increase in the local labour quality.
The industry is growing with the auto industry moving to the region, besides the oil and gas industry also on the rise. With the implementation of a lamination industry in the Industrial and Port Complex of Pecém (CIPP) and two steel mills that are in setup process in Ceará, the mechanical metal sector of the state in the year 2015 will be one of the most promising of the country.

Civil Construction
One of the sectors that mostly grew in recent years, civil construction has programs aimed at housing and carrying out major projects on behalf of the development of the state, warming the market and generating profits as well as jobs in areas such as production, sales and trade materials. Salary growth in terms of reais, the greatest purchasing power and the growing of middle class, inflation at controlled level, lower unemployment rate and increase in mortgage operations are some of the factors driving the industry.
Ceará is the second textile pole in Brazil. Several companies from the South of the country like Vicunha and Marisol, have settled in the state. Foreign companies such as American group VF announce investments, which can further boost the sector. The Fashion Yearbook of Ceará in 2011, launched by Sinditêxtil shows that the state has the most diverse and organized fashion pole in the country. Fortaleza is a wholesale target from other states going to the capital to buy a wide variety of fashion products made in Ceará.
